All our shepherd huts start with treated steel and iron frames for a solid base and we build a refined lattice softwood structure for a very strong braced frame. Into this we build several layers of insulation, cladding and membranes to ensure a breathable but moisture-proof shell that will stay warm all year around. Roof finishes, exterior finishes and cladding and visible hardwood details can all be incorporated into the original design based on your preferences.

We love the intricate colours and warmth that a piece of hardwood will bring to any project. Mostly we use hardwood for accents to our huts. A well braced and consistently sized softwood frame brings huge strength, and once clad can then be brought to life by hardwood display features. We source hardwood sustainably from English and European forests and ensure it is completely seasoned before use in our buildings and primarily work with oak. Sometimes the hardwood accents won't come alive until the last few days of manufacture in a hut when final wood finishes are being applied. Suddenly the hut goes from a construction in progress to a warm home and the rich wood colours burst into life.

Our favourite hut is always the one we're currently working on! Most of these tend to be the Original Purton Barn Shepherd Hut and we think nothing can beat snuggling up in a cocooned bed in a cosy warm hut. We have completed a series of several ready-to-furnish studio huts recently and this gives you the chance to add your own furniture, style and use, so this could be best for you.

We think harder about the user experience. Where do the mugs live in the kitchen? Can you ever have too much insulation? How long will it take to warm up in the winter? Will it be too hot in summer? What materials feel best to touch, and what fabrics are most sustainable and also cosy? Years of considering these elements means we have created a product that is truly special, designed to make you feel comfortable without you even realising.
